Timeless Modern Classic Chairs

One of my favorite styles in chairs is the “Egg” chair, based on a 1958 design by Arne Jacobsen.  What I like about it is the classic design and clean lines.  It makes a bold statement and adds an element of surprise to a room.  You can place it with traditional, contemporary or modern furniture.  Click to see more modern classic chairs.

A similar, but more traditonal look is the Versailles Domed Burlap-Backed Chair sold by Restoration Hardware.  The lines are based the Rococo and Neo-classic European 18th century French design.  During this time the French were the leaders in European furniture design.  This was also the era of romanticism and we see this trend now coming back into vogue in 2012.

Space Planning

Space planning is an integral part of interior design.  It begins with research and analysis of clients goals which will be used to create drawings and diagrams and in the formulation of design concepts.  This helps clients visualize how their space will look based on the designers recommendations.  Space planning is a major step in the preliminary planning phase of interior design.  A good design plan will show exactly where the furniture will go, create balance and harmony.  It will also emphasize the room's focal point, be functional, maximize the use of the space and improve traffic flow.

The first step is to create a floor plan drawn to scale.

The next step is create a finished floor plan and lighting plan.  Since the plan is drawn to scale, it will assist the client in the purchase of the proper sized furnishings.

Third step is a mood board which gives the client a visual tool of the recommended furniture styles, color and fabric selection.

With the advent of computer aided design and the internet, space planning can not only be done in-house for local clients but can also be done online anywhere in the world!  To see more of this room design, click on the Room Design tab above.
